As per-port prices drop, 10G Ethernet will increasingly be deployed to overcome data center bottlenecks for bandwidth-intensive applications such as high-performance computing, business continuity, virtualization, video on demand, storage, video surveillance and voice over IP. This session will explore the outlook for 10G Ethernet in the next-generation data center, providing guidelines for how to implement 10G Ethernet switching in state-of-the-art blade server systems and to create advanced network topologies that employ 10G Ethernet networking directly to and from each blade in the server. It also will compare 10G Ethernet to connectivity alternatives such as InfiniBand, RapidIO and other specialized or proprietary options.

Vikram Mehta Interview for Red Herring

Video of Interview Local version and transcript

“Once a business unit of Nortel, a cash infusion by Garnett & Helfrich Capital transformed BLADE Network Technologies into an independent company with a focus on server virtualization. The idea is that one server can be partitioned into many servers, thus allowing companies to save money on hardware and software costs. Some recent studies suggest that virtual-style servers will grab more than half the market in new servers within the next two years. While BLADE enjoys partnerships with companies like IBM, it also faces massive competitors like Cisco, Intel, and Dlink.” — Red Herring
