BNT offers two classes of software:
- Software Maintenance Releases (updates & fixes) - IBM BNT is committed to supporting the current (N) release and prior release (N-1) for the life of the switch whether in or out of warranty.
- Software Feature Release which are enhancements in functionality. Select switches include a 3 year software license with purchase, while other switches offer optional software licenses for purchase.

There are two versions of software (1.5 or 5.1). You are entitled to the code that comes with the switch you purchased and the related maintenance releases.
- Switches shipped with 1.5 can purchase a software upgrade license by send a request to support@bladenetwork.net
- Switches shipped with 5.1 can be down leveled to 1.5 for those wanting to standardized on that code base.
